About PickWatt

PickWatt exists because the price tag of an electrical product tells you almost nothing about what it will cost you. We put the running cost next to every product, calculated from the current electricity price in your country.

What we do

Every guide on PickWatt takes a category of electrical product — heaters, electric blankets, coffee machines, robot vacuums, plug-in solar — and shows, for each product, what it costs to run. For the UK we use the Ofgem price cap unit rate in force this quarter; for Germany the BDEW household average. We use the wattage or capacity the seller publishes on the product listing; where the seller publishes nothing, we say so rather than guess.

We recompute every figure on every build, so when Ofgem changes the cap the whole site changes with it. The date of the price used is shown at the top of every page.

Who writes it

PickWatt is written and run by André Pires, a marketing and analytics professional based in Niterói, Brazil, through his company ELEVA ONLINE LTDA. André built and runs PickIreland, the Irish sister site, which pioneered the running-cost format in 2026. He is not an electrician or an energy consultant; the method is arithmetic on published figures and official tariffs, and the sources are linked on every page.

We do not test products in a lab. We select them from published specifications, the manufacturer's documentation and the review record on Amazon, and we tell you which is which.

How we make money

PickWatt is funded by affiliate commissions: when you click a link to Amazon and buy something, Amazon pays us a small percentage. The price you pay is the same. We are a participant in the Amazon EU Associates Programme. Affiliate links never influence which products we list or how we rank them, and we do not accept payment from manufacturers for placement. Full details on the affiliate disclosure page.

What we deliberately do not do

We do not show product prices as text, because they change daily — the button takes you to the live price on Amazon. We do not show product photographs, because Amazon's terms only allow images through its API, which requires a sales history we are building. We do not hide content behind scroll animations or pop-ups. And we do not invent specifications: a figure is either from the listing, the manufacturer or an official body, or it is marked as not published.

Contact and corrections

If a wattage, a tariff or a legal statement on this site is wrong, email hofficebr@gmail.com and we will check it against the source and correct it. Company details are on the Impressum page (in German, as required for our German site).
