The best robot vacuums with self-emptying docks in the UK — and what they cost to run
A robot vacuum's battery holds around 0.07 kWh, so a full charge costs about 2p at the Ofgem cap. The dock that washes and hot-air-dries the mops costs more than the robot does. Here are the models worth buying, and the honest yearly running cost.
Quick answer: which robot vacuum, and what will it cost per year?
For most UK homes with hard floors and some carpet, the eufy Omni C20 (all-in-one dock, 7,000 Pa, very slim) or the Roborock QV 35S (10,000 Pa, dual spinning mops, lifting mops for carpet) are the sensible mid-range buys. On a tighter budget the Tapo RV30 Max Plus does LiDAR mapping and self-emptying for much less. If money is no object, the Roborock Saros 20 Neo climbs thresholds and washes its mops in hot water.
Running cost: electricity is small — a typical 5,200 mAh / 14.4 V pack is about 0.075 kWh, 2p per full charge at 26.32p/kWh, call it £7 a year for daily cleaning. Docks with hot-water mop washing and hot-air drying add the most: a drying cycle can draw hundreds of watts for an hour or two. Budget £10–£30 a year of electricity for an all-in-one dock, and £40–£90 a year for dust bags, filters, brushes and mop pads, which is the bigger number.
The robot vacuum market in 2026 has split into three tiers: basic LiDAR robots with a self-empty dock (Tapo, eufy X8 Pro, Roborock Q7), all-in-one docks that also wash and dry the mops (eufy Omni C20, Roborock QV 35S, Tapo RV30 Max Plus Gen2), and flagships with obstacle-climbing chassis and hot-water washing (Roborock Saros 20 Neo). Suction figures in pascals have become a marketing race — 7,000 Pa is plenty for pet hair on carpet; above 10,000 Pa the difference is hard to feel.
Amazon.co.uk listings for robot vacuums rarely publish the battery capacity in watt-hours, so unlike our heater and blanket guides we cannot show a verified per-charge cost for each model. We show the published specifications we could verify, mark the battery as 'not published' where that is the case, and give a category-level running cost in the method below.
Our picks
#1Best overall
eufy Omni C20 (all-in-one station, 7,000 Pa, 8.5 cm tall)
eufy
Running cost: not published by the seller
Suction7,000 Pa
DockSelf-empty, mop wash, air dry, auto-refill
MopDual spinning, 180 rpm
RuntimeNot published
Height3.35 in (8.5 cm)
The slimmest all-in-one robot you can buy — 8.5 cm — so it gets under sofas and beds that stop other docked robots. The station empties the bin, washes and air-dries the mops and refills the water tank.
7,000 Pa with a Pro-Detangle comb is enough for pet hair on short-pile carpet; the dock dries mops with room-temperature air, which uses less electricity than hot-air docks.
Best for: flats and houses with low furniture and mixed floors. Skip it if: deep-pile carpet throughout.
Roborock's mainstream Qrevo platform: 10,000 Pa, dual spinning mops that lift 10 mm so they stay off carpet, and an all-in-one dock. Reactive obstacle avoidance handles cables and socks better than a basic LiDAR robot.
Available in black (this listing) and white (B0DSL815LM); the white listing states a 180-minute runtime.
Best for: homes with carpet and hard floors that want proper mopping. Skip it if: anyone who only vacuums — pay less for a self-empty-only model.
Tapo RV30 Max Plus (5,300 Pa, LiDAR, self-empty dock)
Tapo (TP-Link)
Running cost: not published by the seller
Suction5,300 Pa
DockSelf-empty, 3 L bag (~2 months)
MopDrag-pad mop, 300 ml tank
Runtime150 min
NavigationLiDAR + IMU
The cheapest way to get LiDAR mapping, room-by-room scheduling and a self-emptying dock from a brand with real app support. 5,300 Pa is fine for hard floors and low-pile carpet.
The mop is a simple drag pad — it dampens, it does not scrub — and the dock does not wash it.
Best for: a first robot vacuum on a budget, hard floors. Skip it if: serious mopping or thick carpet.
eufy X8 Pro (twin turbine 2 × 4,000 Pa, self-empty)
eufy
Running cost: not published by the seller
Suction2 × 4,000 Pa twin turbine
DockSelf-empty, 2.5 L bag (~45 days)
Mop2-in-1 drag pad
Runtime120 min
BrushPro-Detangle comb
Twin turbines give it the deepest carpet pull in this price band, and the self-cleaning roller brush is the feature pet owners rate. Over 5,000 reviews.
Mopping is basic and the dock only empties — this is a vacuum first.
Best for: carpeted homes with shedding pets. Skip it if: homes that want mopping handled by the dock.
The 2026 flagship: an AdaptiLift chassis that climbs double-layer thresholds up to 8.8 cm, a retractable laser so it fits under 8 cm furniture, warm-water mopping with 14 N pressure, and a dock that washes with 100 °C water and dispenses detergent.
Only a handful of reviews so far because it is new; the specification is why it is here. The 100 °C washing and hot-air drying make it the most electricity-hungry dock on the page.
Best for: large homes with thresholds, rugs and real mopping needs. Skip it if: value — three mid-range robots cost less.
MONSGA MS1 MAX (7,000 Pa, 3.5 L self-empty station)
MONSGA
Running cost: not published by the seller
Suction7,000 Pa
DockSelf-empty, 3.5 L (~60 days)
MopDrag pad, 340 ml combined tank
Runtime180 min
MappingLiDAR, 5 floors
A lesser-known brand with a strong review record: 7,000 Pa, a 3.5-litre dust station that goes about two months between changes, LiDAR with five floor maps and a 180-minute runtime.
App and support are the risk with a smaller brand; the hardware spec is competitive with Tapo.
Best for: the longest interval between bag changes at a low price. Skip it if: buyers who want a mainstream brand's app and spares.
Electricity per full charge = battery capacity in kWh × 26.32p. Where a listing publishes the pack (for example 5,200 mAh at 14.4 V = 0.075 kWh) the cost is 2p per charge; charger losses add roughly 10–15%. Robots clean for 90–250 minutes per charge, so daily cleaning is one charge a day: about £7 a year.
The dock is the variable: self-empty docks run a high-power suction motor for 10–20 seconds per clean (negligible), but all-in-one docks that hot-air-dry the mops run a heater and fan for 2–4 hours, which on the models that publish it is in the hundreds of watts — typically 0.1–0.3 kWh per mopping session. At daily mopping that is £10–£30 a year. Consumables (dust bags £1–£3 each every 6–8 weeks, HEPA filters, side brushes, mop pads) are £40–£90 a year depending on the brand's pricing.
We use the Ofgem price cap of 26.32p/kWh (1 Oct – 31 Dec 2026). Where a seller publishes a battery figure in Wh on the listing we use it; we never estimate per-model figures from unpublished data.
How we chose
LiDAR (laser) mapping with room selection and no-go zones — the feature that separates a real robot from a bumper-car.
A self-emptying dock on every pick, because it is what makes the robot hands-off.
Anti-tangle brushes for pet hair.
Reviews on Amazon.co.uk and the brand's UK support record; one flagship with few reviews included on specification.
The robot itself very little: a typical 5,200 mAh, 14.4 V battery holds about 0.075 kWh, so a full charge costs about 2p at 26.32p/kWh and daily cleaning around £7 a year. All-in-one docks that hot-air-dry mops are the bigger draw — 0.1–0.3 kWh per mopping session — which adds £10–£30 a year at daily use.
What are the yearly running costs of a robot vacuum?
Electricity £7–£35 depending on the dock, plus consumables: dust bags (one every 6–8 weeks, £1–£3 each), a HEPA filter and side brush every few months, mop pads twice a year, and a main brush yearly. Budget £40–£90 a year for consumables with a mainstream brand; third-party packs are cheaper.
Is a self-emptying dock worth it?
If you want the robot to be genuinely hands-off, yes: without one you empty a 300–400 ml bin after every run. The dock's own electricity use for emptying is negligible (seconds of suction). The extra cost is the bags, roughly £15–£25 a year.
Do I need 10,000 Pa or more?
No. 5,000–7,000 Pa handles hard floors and low-pile carpet with pet hair; 8,000–10,000 Pa helps on medium-pile carpet. Beyond that the numbers are mostly marketing; brush design, anti-tangle and the mop system matter more.
Which robot vacuum is best for pet hair?
Models with anti-tangle main brushes: eufy X8 Pro (Pro-Detangle comb, twin turbines) and the Roborock QV 35S and Q7 L5+ (JawScrapers / dual anti-tangle). Pair with a self-empty dock so hair goes straight into a sealed bag.
Will a robot vacuum go over door thresholds and rugs?
Most clear about 2 cm. The Roborock Saros 20 Neo's AdaptiLift chassis is rated for double-layer obstacles up to 8.8 cm, which is the reason to pay for it in an older house with high thresholds.
